Naveen Patnaik Raises Concerns After NEET-UG 2026 Cancellation Over Alleged Paper Leak
Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Monday expressed concern over the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination following reports of a question paper leak, describing the development as a major setback for students and the credibility of India’s examination system.
In a statement issued after the controversy surfaced, Patnaik said repeated allegations of paper leaks in national-level examinations were eroding public trust and increasing uncertainty among students preparing for competitive tests.

Patnaik Calls Cancellation a “Blow to Trust”
The former Odisha Chief Minister said the cancellation had affected lakhs of students who spend years preparing for medical entrance examinations with the hope of securing admission to medical colleges.
According to Patnaik, any compromise in the fairness of examinations goes beyond an administrative failure and directly impacts the future of deserving candidates. He said students dedicate significant time, effort, and personal sacrifice to such exams, making transparency and credibility essential.
He also noted that concerns related to alleged paper leaks in NEET examinations had emerged earlier as well, raising questions about the security and integrity of the testing process.
Growing Concerns Over Examination Integrity
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is one of India’s largest competitive entrance examinations and serves as the gateway for undergraduate medical admissions across the country. Any disruption in the examination process can affect students, parents, coaching institutions, and universities on a large scale.
Patnaik warned that repeated controversies surrounding competitive exams could increase stress and distrust among aspirants. He said India cannot afford to jeopardize the future of its youth, stressing that students form the backbone of the country’s future workforce.
Demand for Accountability and Systemic Reforms
Calling for immediate action, Patnaik urged authorities to ensure accountability in the matter and introduce stronger safeguards to prevent future lapses.
He said reforms were necessary to restore public confidence in the examination system and ensure that students’ hard work is protected from administrative or security failures.
The controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 cancellation has once again intensified debate over examination security, digital monitoring, and the need for stricter mechanisms to prevent leaks and malpractice in national-level entrance tests.
What Happens Next
Authorities are expected to review the circumstances surrounding the alleged leak and announce further steps regarding the conduct of the examination. Students and parents across the country are now awaiting clarity on the revised schedule and measures being implemented to ensure a fair and transparent process.
