Hyderabad, June 12, 2025: The city is on edge as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall today. Dark clouds have covered Hyderabad, and showers have already started in areas like Santosh Nagar and Champapet, causing waterlogging on some roads. But is this a sign of major floods, or just another monsoon scare?
The IMD predicts more rain and thunderstorms over the next 48 hours, urging people to stay cautious. Waterlogging has slowed traffic in low-lying areas, with visuals showing vehicles struggling through flooded streets. “I was stuck near Santosh Nagar for an hour,” said Rajesh Kumar, a local driver. “The water was knee-deep in some spots.”
The Hyderabad civic authorities are on high alert, with teams clearing drains to prevent further flooding. However, residents are worried. “Every year, we hear about alerts, but the waterlogging never stops,” said Priya Reddy, a shopkeeper in Champapet. “We need better planning.”
On social media, Hyderabadis are sharing videos of waterlogged roads, raising questions about the city’s preparedness. Some fear a repeat of past floods, while others hope it’s just a passing shower. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has promised quick action, but only time will tell if the city can avoid chaos.
