The Indian automobile market is no stranger to compact multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs), but few have struck a chord quite like the Renault Triber. Since its launch, the Triber has carved out a distinct niche for itself, offering a rare combination of practicality, affordability, and innovation. Aimed at families and budget-conscious buyers, this sub-4-metre MPV continues to be one of Renault’s strongest performers in India.
Design That Defies Size
At first glance, the Renault Triber impresses with its muscular stance and SUV-inspired design language. With roof rails, LED DRLs, and a bold front grille, it manages to look more premium than its price tag suggests. Despite its compact dimensions, the Triber offers an exceptionally spacious cabin, thanks to Renault’s clever use of modular architecture.
One of the standout features is its flexible seating configuration. The Triber offers a unique modular 7-seater layout, allowing users to completely remove the third row, fold it, or switch to a 5- or 6-seat setup depending on cargo or passenger needs. This adaptability gives the Triber a strong edge over rivals in the same segment.
Cabin Comfort and Features
Inside, the Renault Triber focuses on function without compromising too much on comfort. The dashboard features a clean layout with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additional features include keyless entry, push-button start, a digital instrument cluster, AC vents for all three rows, and a cooled central storage box.
In terms of boot space, the Triber offers an impressive 625 litres in its 5-seater configuration, one of the best in the segment. Even with all seats up, it manages to provide a usable boot for daily utility.
Performance and Efficiency
Under the hood, the Triber is powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which produces around 72 PS of power and 96 Nm of torque. While not a performance beast, the engine delivers adequate power for city commutes and occasional highway runs. It’s paired with a 5-speed manual or AMT (automated manual transmission), offering decent fuel efficiency in the range of 19–20 km/l, depending on the variant and driving conditions.
Renault is also reportedly working on a 1.0-litre turbocharged version, which could enhance the Triber’s appeal for those looking for more punch under the pedal.
Safety and Build
The Triber comes equipped with safety features like dual front airbags (up to four in top variants), ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and speed-sensing door locks. Its build quality has also been recognized, with the car scoring 4 stars for adult safety in Global NCAP crash tests — a notable achievement in its class.
Pricing and Variants
One of the Triber’s biggest selling points is its pricing. With a starting price well under ₹7 lakh (ex-showroom), it remains one of the most affordable 7-seaters in the Indian market. The top-end variant, even with all features, doesn’t cross the ₹9 lakh mark, making it a value-for-money proposition for families and fleet buyers alike.
