LPG Cylinder Shortage in India: Government Increases Production by 30% to Stabilise Supply
Amid reports of cooking gas shortages in certain parts of the country, the Government of India has increased domestic production of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by around 30 percent in an effort to stabilise supply and ensure availability for households.
Government officials said the move aims to address concerns raised by consumers and businesses about delays in LPG cylinder deliveries. The increase in production is intended to strengthen the supply chain and maintain adequate stock levels across distribution networks.
Authorities have also issued a statement assuring the public that there is no immediate cause for concern regarding LPG availability. Officials said the government is closely monitoring the situation and working with oil marketing companies to ensure uninterrupted supply across the country.
Industry sources said LPG is a widely used household fuel in India and is also used by restaurants, small businesses, and commercial establishments. Any disruption in supply can affect both domestic consumers and service sectors that rely on cooking gas for daily operations.
Government representatives said coordination with LPG distributors and oil companies has been intensified to speed up deliveries and prevent shortages at the local level. They added that logistics and distribution networks are being adjusted to meet demand in areas experiencing higher consumption.
Officials further noted that the production increase and supply monitoring measures are part of broader efforts to maintain stability in the energy sector. Authorities said updates would be shared if additional steps are required to manage demand and supply.
The government has urged consumers to rely on official information and avoid panic buying, emphasising that supply arrangements are being strengthened to meet household demand across India.
