NC Government Aims to Develop Bani as Tourism Hub, Says Rattan Lal Gupta

Rattan Lal Gupta, a senior leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, on Thursday said the government led by Omar Abdullah is working to develop Bani in Jammu region into a recognised tourism destination.

Speaking at a party workers’ meeting in Bani, Gupta highlighted ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and unlock the area’s tourism potential.

Key Announcements / Highlights

  • Government plans to position Bani as a regional and national tourism destination.
  • Development projects worth ₹228 crore have been allocated for the constituency.
  • Focus areas include road connectivity, healthcare, and education infrastructure.
  • Several projects are reported to be completed, with others nearing completion.

Official Statement

Gupta said the administration is prioritising inclusive development in Bani and credited local MLA Rameshwar Singh for efforts in advancing projects. He stated that road upgrades, including internal routes, are underway and previously delayed works are progressing.

He also alleged that earlier administrations had not adequately developed the region, leading to gaps in basic services such as schools and healthcare facilities.

Context / Background

Bani, a sub-division in Jammu region, is known for its natural landscape but has remained relatively underdeveloped as a tourist destination. Infrastructure—particularly road access, public services, and accommodation facilities—has historically limited tourism growth.

Tourism development in such regions typically involves improving connectivity, upgrading public amenities, and promoting local attractions to attract visitors and investment.

Public Impact

If implemented effectively, the proposed development could boost local employment, especially in hospitality, transport, and small businesses. Improved roads and public services may also benefit residents by enhancing access to healthcare, education, and markets.

However, the claims regarding project progress and past neglect reflect political positions and would require independent verification through official data and on-ground assessment.

The National Conference leadership has outlined plans to promote Bani as a tourism hub, backed by infrastructure investments. The pace of execution and tangible outcomes in the coming months will determine how these plans translate into economic and social benefits for the region.
