Official Statement
Officials overseeing the process said preparations have been finalised to ensure smooth and secure voting. Polling personnel are being dispatched to their assigned locations, with teams already sent in advance to remote districts such as Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong to address accessibility challenges.
Authorities emphasised that strict monitoring measures—including CCTV surveillance and border vigilance—have been put in place to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
Campaign Highlights
The final phase of campaigning saw intensified political activity, with senior leaders holding multiple rallies across the state.
Among key campaigners were Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and JP Nadda on behalf of the ruling alliance.
Opposition outreach included rallies led by Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Asaduddin Owaisi.
The closing days of the campaign also witnessed heightened political exchanges, reflecting the competitive nature of the election.
Context / Background
In the previous 2021 assembly elections, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 76 seats, while the Congress-led alliance won 49. The current election is significant as it will determine whether the ruling coalition can retain power for a third consecutive term.
The state’s electoral landscape includes a mix of national and regional parties, with the Bharatiya Janata Party contesting 90 seats and the Indian National Congress fielding candidates in 99 constituencies.
Public Impact
The elections are a key democratic exercise affecting governance, development priorities, and policy direction in Assam. With a large number of first-time voters, the outcome will also reflect shifting political preferences among younger demographics.
Security arrangements and logistical planning are especially crucial in Assam due to its diverse terrain, including remote and hilly areas, ensuring that all eligible voters can participate safely.
With campaigning now over, the focus shifts to voter turnout and polling day management. The results will play a decisive role in shaping Assam’s political trajectory over the next five years, with counting expected after the completion of voting procedures.
