Odisha Government Assures Adequate LPG, Petrol and Diesel Supply Amid Localised Disruptions
The Odisha government has said there is no overall shortage of LPG, petrol, or diesel across the state, even as minor supply disruptions have been reported in some areas.
Supply Secretary Sanjay Singh stated on April 6 that steps taken over the past month have ensured steady availability of essential fuels.
Key Announcements / Highlights
- No statewide shortage of LPG, petrol, or diesel
- Minor localised disruptions acknowledged but described as temporary
- Distribution of 5 kg LPG cylinders continuing through e-KYC verification
- Enforcement action taken against illegal fuel trading
- Over 3,000 cylinders seized during anti-black marketing drives
Government’s Response to Supply Concerns
Officials said that while some locations have faced short-term issues in accessing petrol and diesel, the broader supply network remains functional.
The state has been coordinating with oil companies to maintain consistent fuel availability, particularly in high-demand areas.
Official Statement
Sanjay Singh said the government has been proactively managing fuel supplies and monitoring distribution channels. He clarified that there is no shortage of LPG in the state.
He added that the distribution of smaller 5 kg LPG cylinders is being carried out through identity verification processes, allowing students and workers to access them with valid documents. Oil marketing companies are also conducting camps to facilitate smoother distribution.
Crackdown on Black Marketing
Authorities have stepped up enforcement against unauthorised traders involved in illegal fuel sales. According to officials, restrictions are targeted at such activities to prevent hoarding and artificial shortages.
As part of these efforts, the department has seized 3,105 cylinders during raids conducted across multiple locations.
Context and Background
Fuel availability often comes under scrutiny during periods of increased demand or supply chain disruptions. Governments typically coordinate with oil marketing companies to ensure uninterrupted distribution and prevent market manipulation.
Measures such as e-KYC verification and enforcement drives are commonly used to regulate distribution and curb black marketing.
Public Impact
For consumers, the assurance of adequate fuel supply helps reduce panic buying and stabilises local markets. Targeted enforcement actions are intended to ensure fair pricing and availability, especially for essential commodities like cooking gas.
The availability of smaller LPG cylinders is particularly relevant for students, migrant workers, and low-consumption households.
The Odisha government has reiterated that fuel supplies remain stable across the state, with ongoing monitoring and enforcement measures in place. Authorities said they will continue to track availability and pricing to prevent disruptions and ensure that essential fuels remain accessible to consumers.
