No LPG, Petrol or Diesel Shortage in Odisha, Says Minister; Urges Public to Avoid Panic Buying
The Odisha government has assured residents that there is no shortage of LPG, petrol, or diesel in the state, amid rising concerns over fuel availability. Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said the situation is under control and urged citizens not to engage in panic buying.
Key Highlights
- Government confirms sufficient stock of LPG, petrol, and diesel
- Around 14,000 LPG cylinders available against daily demand of 2,000
- No restrictions on domestic LPG supply
- Partial supply support extended to hotels and restaurants
- Enforcement action intensified against hoarding and black marketing
Government Assures Adequate Supply
Addressing concerns, the minister stated that fuel supplies across Odisha remain stable and well-managed. He emphasised that current stock levels are sufficient to meet both domestic and commercial demand.
According to official estimates, the state currently has a reserve of about 14,000 LPG cylinders, significantly higher than the daily requirement of around 2,000 cylinders.
Official Statement
Patra reiterated that there is no reason for alarm and urged the public to avoid unnecessary stockpiling. He said the government is closely monitoring supply chains to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential fuels.
He also confirmed that there are no restrictions on LPG distribution for households, ensuring continued access for consumers across the state.
Measures for Commercial Supply
The minister acknowledged recent disruptions in LPG supply to commercial establishments such as hotels and restaurants. He said the government is working to stabilise supplies and is currently able to meet up to 50% of their cooking gas requirements.
Efforts are underway to improve distribution and address the needs of the hospitality sector more effectively.
Context and Background
Concerns over fuel availability have emerged in several regions due to supply chain uncertainties and market fluctuations. Such situations often lead to panic buying, which can temporarily disrupt distribution even when overall stocks are adequate.
Governments typically respond by monitoring supply levels and enforcing regulations to prevent hoarding and ensure fair distribution.
Public Impact
The government’s reassurance is aimed at preventing unnecessary panic among consumers. Stable supply of LPG, petrol, and diesel is critical for households, transportation, and businesses.
Strict action against hoarding and black marketing is expected to ensure that fuel reaches consumers at regulated prices without artificial shortages.
